'Halavu Nenapugalu', a work in Kannada, is
book of reminiscences by the centenarian, Pandit Sudhakar Chaturvedi. Now
116 years old, he is an ardent Arya Samajist. He has remained a bachelor and
dedicated himself to spreading the message of Arya Samaj and to social
service. In his work Panditji
focuses on the tumultuous years of the struggle for freedom but the last
part of the book takes us to post-independence era. Gandhiji, who used to
call him 'Karnataki', found in this social worker, unencumbered with a
family or profession, a trustworthy and devoted colleague. So Panditji
became the critical insider, reverential towards the Mahatma and yet
thinking and judging men and events for himself.
